On Quotex the demo and the real account share the same screen, the same assets and the same payout percentages, which is exactly why people underestimate the jump between them. The software is the same. Almost everything else changes: the money, the paperwork, the rules around withdrawals and, above all, how you behave. This guide compares the two and gives you a checklist for deciding when, or whether, to switch.
Side-by-side comparison
| Feature | Demo account | Real account |
|---|---|---|
| Money | $10,000 virtual | Your own deposit |
| Cost to start | Free | Minimum deposit $5 |
| Identity verification | Not needed | Needed before first withdrawal |
| Withdrawals | Not possible | Back to your deposit method |
| Charts, assets, indicators | Same as real | Same as demo |
| Bonuses | Not applicable | Can carry trading-volume conditions |
| Risk of loss | None | You can lose the whole deposit |
Both balances live in the same account, so there is nothing to re-register. You switch from the balance display at the top of the trading screen. If you are new here, our Quotex demo account page explains how to open one.
What stays the same
Charts, indicators, assets and payout percentages are the same on both. That makes the demo a fair way to learn the interface, order types and expiry times. Our trading screen walkthrough applies to both balances equally.
What changes when real money is involved
Your behaviour
This is the biggest gap and no setting can fix it. People take bigger risks on demo because a loss costs nothing, and many become more hesitant or more impulsive live, chasing losses or closing out decisions too early. A good demo record shows you understand the platform. It does not show you can stay disciplined with your own money.
Verification and withdrawals
The demo needs no documents. A real account usually asks for identity and address documents before your first withdrawal, and withdrawals normally go back to the method you deposited with. Read the account verification guide and the withdrawal time guide before you deposit, not after.
Deposits and bonuses
Real accounts involve deposit methods that vary by country, and bonuses can carry trading-volume requirements that delay withdrawals. Compare options in the deposit methods guide, and consider declining bonuses if you may want to withdraw soon.
Regulation
Quotex is not regulated by a major financial authority such as the FCA, ASIC or CySEC. On the demo that is irrelevant. With real money it means there is no ombudsman or compensation scheme if a dispute goes badly. Our article asking is Quotex legit goes through this in detail.
A checklist before you switch to a real account
- You have a written record of at least a few weeks of demo trades at realistic trade sizes.
- Your win rate sits comfortably above the break-even rate for the payouts you trade. See the demo balance reset guide for how to run a clean test period.
- You have decided in advance the most you can lose, and it is an amount you can afford to lose.
- You have checked that using the platform is permitted where you live.
- You plan to start with the minimum deposit and make a small test withdrawal early.
If you cannot tick all five, staying on the demo longer is the cheaper option. Most retail traders lose money once real funds are involved, and a demo profit does not change that.
